On the outer wall of the Old Refectory, we can find the biggest fresco in Bulgaria from the XIX century. Thanks to its location on a north wall and under to a prolonged roof, it is perfectly preserved. The author is Aleksi Atanasov. He used as a guide an older image from 1807, which portrayed the monastery and its surroundings, portraits of the founders, the celebrations of the second day of Easter, Kluviata, the end of town (Asenovgrad) and many chapels in the area. It carries the style of the National Revival. Among the participants of the Easter celebrations, there are members of some rich families from Plovdiv – Chulukovi, Chomakovi, who made donations and provided support for this Holy Place. Everyone is wearing richly decorated clothes. Portraits of warrior saints are decorated on the sides of the main composition, with St. George and St. Dimitar and scenes from their lives underneath. The fresco provides historical information about the state of the monastery after its foundation. From what one can see in spite having to be rebuilt a few times, the monastery had managed to sustain consistent appearance throughout the years.
